Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.

City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.

An important official commented the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
