Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since that period of 2023.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to win a title is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.
He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.
Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, he earned the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
